There are few events that capture the spirit of British sailing quite like Cowes Week – and in 2026, the atmosphere was even more special as the iconic regatta celebrated its 200th anniversary.
For a week, Cowes and the Solent became the centre of the sailing world once again, with hundreds of yachts taking to the water, thousands of sailors and spectators filling the town, and a packed programme of racing and entertainment bringing the bicentenary celebrations to life.
For Fairview Sailing, it was a particularly memorable week – and we were delighted to see so many of our customers out on the water, whether taking part in the racing themselves or enjoying the spectacle from the best possible vantage point: their own yacht.
200 Years of Cowes Week
First established in 1826, Cowes Week has grown from its early beginnings into one of the world’s most renowned sailing regattas. Two centuries later, the 2026 edition celebrated not just the history of the event, but everything that continues to make Cowes Week so special.
The bicentenary brought an extra sense of occasion to the Solent, with special anniversary events, historic displays and celebrations taking place throughout the week.
On the water, the familiar mix of competitive racing, tactical sailing and close-fought starts was as exciting as ever. More than 600 boats took part, creating the incredible sight of fleets of yachts filling the Solent day after day.
And ashore, Cowes was buzzing from morning until late into the evening, with live music, food, bars and celebrations continuing long after the day’s racing had finished.
Fairview Customers at the Heart of the Action
One of the highlights for us at Fairview Sailing was seeing our customers making the most of Cowes Week.
For those racing, the week offered the chance to experience the Solent at its most exciting – putting sailing skills, tactics and teamwork to the test against a huge fleet of competitors.
For others, simply being afloat provided an incredible way to experience the event. Watching the starts, following the racing and seeing the fleet return to Cowes from the deck of a Fairview yacht offers a completely different perspective on the regatta.

The Fireworks Made a Welcome Return
And then came Friday night.
After a seven-year absence, the famous Cowes Week fireworks returned to the Solent – and what better year to bring them back than the event’s 200th anniversary?
As the final day of racing came to an end, thousands of people gathered around Cowes, while boats filled the water to watch the spectacular display. At 9.30pm, the sky above the Solent lit up in a fitting finale to a truly historic week.
For those watching from the water, it was particularly memorable. With the lights of Cowes behind you, yachts gathered across the Solent and fireworks overhead, it was one of those sailing moments that stays with you.
After 200 years of Cowes Week, it felt like the perfect way to celebrate.
