Fairview Sailing is taking a slightly different approach to its newly awaited Sea School…… You will have all the confidence of being onboard one of our new, clean and well maintained charter yachts with a hand picked instructor to suit your age group and needs. Who you have on board is entirely up to you and you have the freedom to choose your own course dates. There can be a maximum of 5 students to one instructor giving you plenty of room onboard. Practical Sailing Courses
Bavaria 37, 8 Berth High Season (May to September) £1850.00 Low Season (October to April) £1549.00 Prices include: VAT, Yacht, Instructor, accommodation onboard, wet weather gear and certification RYA Sailing Courses RYA Start Yachting This course provides a short introduction to the delights of sail cruising for novices. By the end of the course you will have a basic knowledge of sailing. You will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, rope-work and be aware of safety on board. This course reduces the time requires to complete the Competent Crew Course. The duration of the course is two days & a certificate is issued on completion. RYA Competent Crew Practical This course is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. It is not necessary to complete a Start Yachting Course first. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines on board. The minimum duration is 5 days, & can be run over 3 weekends or 3 days plus a weekend. If you have previously completed the Start Yachting course, the Competent Crew course can be completed in 3 or 4 days. For this course the yacht will not be day-sailed from its home port & some night sailing may be undertaken. Course completion certificate issued. RYA Day Skipper This course gives you the chance to take charge on short passages under instruction. You will concentrate on pilotage, boat handling, seamanship, navigation & general yacht management. The suggested pre-course experience is 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht. The assumed knowledge is basic navigation and sailing ability. It is recommended that you attend the Day Skipper shore-based course before taking this practical course. For this course the yacht will not be day-sailed from its home port. There is no exam at the end of the course. Certificates are issued to those who have satisfied their instructor that they have reached the required level of competence. RYA Coastal Skipper Course This is a five-day advanced skippering course for those who have considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations. The suggested minimum pre-course experience for this course is 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours. The assumed knowledge is boat handling to the standard of the Day Skipper practical sail cruising course, and navigation to the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased course. This course is run over five consecutive days, & the yacht will not be day sailed from its home port. A course completion certificate is issued at the end of the course. We can arrange Coastal Skipper Exams following on from the course if required. Coastal & Yachtmaster Examinations Full details of the exam syllabus and requirements are shown in the RYA’s Sail Cruising Logbook (code G15) and can also be found on the RYA website here. Details of pre course requirements should be studied carefully. The Principal of our Sea School can advise you further if you have any doubts. We provide the yacht (if required) and the RYA provides an examiner. The exam will take about 6-10 hours for one candidate and 8-14 hours for two. Yachtmaster Exam Preparation There is no ‘official’ Yachtmaster practical course. Candidates wishing to undertake the Yachtmaster exam are strongly advised to have some tuition before the exam, even if they have worked their way through the other RYA Courses. We can arrange pre Yachtmaster Exam tuition to suit the individual, & arrange examinations to follow on from the tuition if required. ICC Assessments & Certificates
